One of the great features that SMSGlobal offer is the ability to upload a CSV file with all your contacts, making it for easy importing. A comma-separated values (CSV) file is a simple text format for a database table. Each record in the table is one line of the text file. Each field value of a record is separated from the next with a comma. A CSV file can easily be created or edited within Excel. However it must be noted that formatting is not allowed, and there should be empty rows within the CSV.

A sample CSV file for importing can be found here.
To create the sample, follow the instructions below.
Create a new file in Excel or important your contacts into Excel. Since there are many different address book applications, please consult the manual for your application or speak to your IT Support.
You will notice there are six headings below. Headings are required to make it easier for our system to import your contacts. Not every heading is required, but these six are the only ones that can be imported. However, a mobile number is definitely required.
When importing contacts there are two ways you can do it. If you wish to import directly into a group you can click on the button within the group, "Import to Group". If you choose this method, you do not need to put a group name into your CSV. If you wish to import into multiple groups, a group name is required. This import can be done by clicking on the "Import Contacts" button. If no group name is entered in your CSV file, then your contacts will be put into a group called "Imported". Further down will be more information on how to import your finished file.
If Excel removes the leading 0's, there is a trick to get around this. Select the field without a zero. Right click on the cell and select "Format Cells...".
Select "Custom" from the left menu and then in "Type" enter in "0000000000". Then push "OK".
Once your CSV file is finished, click on "Save As" from the file menu and then select "Other Formats".
From the dropdown, select "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)".
On the next two alert boxes click "Ok" and then "Yes".
Your CSV file is now ready to be imported into your phonebook.
To import a CSV file into your contacts, log into your account and go to your Phonebook. You will come to a screen as shown below.
As mentioned above, there are two ways to import your contacts. Either directly into a group or into groups in general. Both use the same wizard with very minor differences. Once you have decided which group to send to, click on the required button.
Click "Choose File". A file selection box will pop up. Find your CSV and select that.
Once you have selected your file, the name of the file should appear. If this is correct, make sure that the "Ignore header row" checkbox is checked and then click on "Import Contacts".
Use the drop down boxes to select what column titles you have. As mentioned above, not all columns are required, however mobile number is. The values in the drop down boxes will come directly from the headers of the columns you set in your CSV file.
Please note: If you are importing directly into a group, the group drop down box will not appear. Once you have chosen what values you wish to import, click on "Import".
The next screen allows you to confirm all the values are correct. If they are, click "Import Contacts".
If everything went well, you will see the follow screen telling you how many contacts have been imported.
Go to your phonebook to double check that all contacts are in their correct groups. As can be seen below, the two groups, "Suppliers" and "Clients" were created with the correct contacts within them. You are now ready to send to these contacts as one group.
