SMSGlobal is excited to announce a collaboration with The Oaktree Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that is Australia’s first and largest youth-run aid organisation.
Travelling on 16 different routes across Australia, 1000 young leaders will visit cities & regional towns, hosting events and activities to educate and gather support for their campaign, Movement to End Poverty.
SMSGlobal will be supporting The Oaktree Foundation’s campaign by providing the SMS services to help achieve their goal of 100,000 registered names.

The 2012 Internet Conference PESA Gala Dinner is to be held in honour of last year’s inspirational speaker, Jim Stynes. Jim sadly passed away this year, after a long battle with cancer and was the co-founder of the Reach Foundation, which PESA proudly supports.
The Gala Dinner is an annual event to be held on Thursday 31 May and includes a Charity Auction with all proceeds going to the Reach Foundation. We’ve donated $3,000 worth of SMS credits to the auction, so if you’d like to take part in the bidding for this, together with other great auction prizes, get to the Gala Dinner to be held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre next week. It’s for a great cause.

SMSGlobal Trek4Kids

To raise further support, awareness and funding for The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, an SMSGlobal team embarked on an exciting adventure, trekking to Everest Base Camp. The trekking team was led by SMSGlobal CEO, Carl Krumins and consisted of SMSGlobal employees Trevor Swan and Kiran Khan. Always a fan of travelling fast and light; a solar mat, satellite phone and notebook accompanied Carl on this journey.

“Making the impossible possible is what makes Carl tick. Accepting a challenge from the industry and his competitive counterparts, Carl sees this journey as an ideal way of demonstrating how using today’s mobile technology can make running a global business a possibility – even whilst trekking the rugged Himalayan ranges of Mount Everest”, says Paul McKenna, Chief Operations Officer.
The nine day adventure began on the 17th of March 2011 and tested the physical boundaries of all members of the team. Upon reaching the rocky terrain of the Himalayan ranges, the team quickly began to appreciate new global perspectives on communication. The role of mobile technology in remote parts of the world became even more relevant during the expedition and although high altitude base stations in Nepal allowed for some mobile coverage, critical services (such as Search and Rescue) could be hampered by an inability to communicate in certain regional areas. The journey has strengthened Carl’s focus on providing enterprise grade mobile messaging solutions globally.

Online journal entries were made by Carl Krumins, SMSGlobal CEO, enabling eager Facebook followers to track the team’s journey day by day. An extract from day three reads: “They say that life is not measured by the number of breaths that you take but by the moments that take your breath away. If this is true then we can certainly say that we have lived to good measure based on today's experiences.”

The Good Friday Appeal
The Good Friday Appeal is the public face of fundraising for Victoria’s Royal Children’s Hospital. It has provided almost $200 million to the hospital since the Appeal began in 1931. “Supporting a worthwhile cause which provides world class medical care using state-of-the-art medical equipment for our young people makes perfect sense for SMSGlobal”, commented Carl Krumins, CEO.

Carl Krumins
Founder and CEO of SMSGlobal, Carl has brought reality to the once conceptualised idea of bringing SMS & MMS into business communication plans, primarily as a means by which businesses can communicate effectively, efficiently and economically with customers. Carl, together with the SMSGlobal team developed SMSGlobal from an industry pioneer to a global leader in messaging services for its clients and today, SMSGlobal services companies within the ASX 200. Carl is passionate in giving back to a community that gave him many opportunities to further develop and expand and he will use this as inspiration on his trek up Mount Everest.
Kiran Khan
Kiran has had a long history and a close affiliation with Carl on various projects in years prior to SMSGlobal’s birth, instrumentally contributing to the company during conceptualisation stages.
Outside of work, Kiran is the drummer for alternative rock band “A Sound Mind”, who are in the process of writing their next album and planning their international tour. Kiran has a deep passion for music and is always keen to seek inspiration from the traditional sounds of exotic cultures.
Trevor Swan
Trevor has been part of the SMSGlobal family since company inception; he currently consults for SMSGlobal at a strategic and operational level. Trevor loves a challenge and a climb of Mount Everest has always been one of his life goals. The conclusion of this trip will mark a key milestone in the highlight reel of his life.
